What IS Science?
Science is a way of learning about the natural world using evidence, observation, testing, and experimentation.
Something is considered science if it:
✅ Can be observed or measured
✅ Can be tested through experiments or investigations
✅ Uses evidence rather than opinions or beliefs
✅ Can be repeated by other people and get similar results
✅ Can be proven wrong if new evidence shows it is incorrect
Examples of science:
Studying how plants grow
Testing which materials conduct electricity
Researching how diseases spread
Investigating the effects of exercise on health
What is NOT Science?
Something is not science if it:
❌ Cannot be tested or measured
❌ Relies only on personal beliefs, opinions, or faith
❌ Cannot be supported by evidence
❌ Cannot be repeated or verified by others
Examples that are generally not science:
Personal opinions ("Blue is the best color.")
Moral questions
("Is it right or wrong to lie?")
Religious beliefs
Superstitions ("A lucky charm improves test scores" without evidence)
Examples
Statement
"Plants grow faster with fertilizer."
"Chocolate tastes better than vanilla."
"Drinking water helps athletes perform better."
"This necklace brings good luck."

✅ Yes
❌ No
✅ Yes
❌ No
Can be tested and measured.
Based on personal opinion.
Can be studied with experiments.
Cannot be scientifically tested.
Why?
Quick Test:
-
Can I test it?
-
Can I collect evidence?
-
Can others repeat the test?
If the answer is yes to all three, it's probably science.
